Our Greek Isles/Mediterranean

Corfu Greece

We are in Corfu today. Jerry and I slept in a little and then went down for breakfast. After breakfast we took the shuttle from the ship to the terminal building and then went in search of a taxi to take us on to town. It was right around 9am. We found a taxi and he took us for 10 euros.
One of my main goals today was to get into town and look for a Pharmacia to get some more Mucinex and Allegra but they didn't have either one. I finally ended up with some Zithromax because I have a really bad sore throat and ear aches. Not unusual when I get run down. I thought I could stave it off with the Mucinex and Allegra but I think it has gotten away from me.
We
wandered around for a little bit and then found ourselves in one of the
squares. We took a carriage ride around town and then walked around and
did some shopping before we were back to where we had started from. By this
time the streets were starting to fill up so we went in search of a taxi
back.
We had already heard it was hard to find a taxi back. We found one but the driver was on the phone. Jerry asked him about taking us back to the port. He said just a minute and got back on the phone again. A couple came up to us and asked if we could share a taxi. We thought that sounded like a great idea. We waited another five minutes and the driver said someone was coming. Shortly thereafter a taxi showed up and dropped off his passengers. The guy we were waiting for said to go to that taxi.
We asked him before getting into the cab how much he said 10 euros per couple. The other couple said it was supposed to be 10 euro per taxi. The driver argued with us and then took off. Once we were at the port terminal the other guy gave him 10 euro and Jerry reached in and got his 10 euro to hand the driver when the driver said no the other guy already paid for it but he would gladly take a tip. Jerry tipped him and off he went.
Jerry paid the other guy our 5 euros. He was asking what it was for and when we told him he felt embarrassed that we ended getting the cab for 10 euros per taxi rather than per couple. The driver had said he drove a hard bargain!
This is a pretty island. They get a lot more rain here than the other
Greek
Islands so there are many pretty flowers and trees.
We will relax the rest of the day on the ship. It's not as hot here on Corfu. It is 80 degrees on our balcony at 3:30pm.
When you're here you do have the option of renting a taxi to take a tour. We didn't ask the price so we have no idea the cost. You can also rent a car or scooter as you can on all the islands we have been to. Neither one of us are that brave!
