St. Louis Missouri

July 2008

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

Jerry and I got up early and prepared for Toby to drop us off at the airport. This was saving us having to park and ride to the airport.

Once we landed at the St. Louis airport we picked up our rent car and made our way to downtown St. Louis. We had decided we would visit the Gateway Arch. We were looking forward to the trip. I had not been there before as we have been here three times and I have traveled through on the highway but never went to the Arch. Jerry had been to the Arch with Toby and Sabrina a few years back but the kids wouldn't go up the tram to the top to see the view. Instead they went on a river boat cruise.

Our plan was to take one of the river boat cruises this time also but with all the rains up north the Mississippi River was out of the banks in St. Louis. The river boats were not cruising now. As we walked from the parking lot to the Gateway Arch we could see the water over the road where Jerry and the kids had driven and parked the car when they were here.

After Jerry and I went up the south tram to the top we came back down the north tram and went through the museum before we returned to the car and made our way to Laclede's Landing at the Riverfront to find a place to have lunch. We were pretty hungry by this time but we did find a good pub for lunch. The Riverfront area reminded us of the West End in Dallas but the Riverfront area was older. It was very quaint and we enjoyed our time.

We headed back toward the airport where the hotel is before the rush hour traffic started but as we drove we realized their rush hour traffic is nothing like rush hour traffic at home.

The rest of our time here I will be in meetings or attending the Bereaved Parents National Gathering.

Great news we will go to New York City for our Gathering next year. I am so excited. I have never been there and have always wanted to go. I am looking forward to our next board meeting in October. We will spend some extra time to catch some sights and then we will go in early in July 2009 also.

Here are some of our pictures of the day.
