My neice, Tracy has been trying to get me to come visit her for years. I finally told her at Christmas time 2006 I would be there to visit during Spring Break 2007. I made my reservations and emailed both Tracy and my sister, Debby who lives in North Carolina. The plan was that I would fly into Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday, March 15, 2007 about 6:50pm.
When my plane touched down I turned on my cell phone and had a few messages waiting for me. It seems Tracy thought she had lost me. I had failed to inform Tracy and Debby of the airline I was traveling on. I usually always put that information in but for some reason it got past all of us.
Tracy was calling her mom in North Carolina but she wasn't finding my airline either. Deb tried to call Jerry he was in San Antonio starting up a new office. She did finally get through to Jerry but by then Tracy had figured out which airline I was on.
It took us a good while to get out of the airport because the lines were really long at the booths. Soon we were on our way to St. Mary's, Georgia.
Tracy and I took a ride out to where her motorcycle was at Randy's. We then stopped for lunch at a Mexican restaurant she frequents. We had Margarita's and then went to meet up with Damian's dad, Allan and Damian.
Damian was spending the weekend with his dad in Jacksonville. His dad picked him up early at school and we met up with them so Tracy could get the parts for her bike that Allan picked up in Jacksonville.
By the time we got back to Tracy's Debby was sitting in the driveway. She had left Spring Lake earlier that morning.
The three of us left to pick up Ms. Hannah at her after school program then headed on to the commisary to pick up the fixin's for the Low Country Boil we were going to have for dinner that night.
Randy came over and got busy cooking the Low Country Boil. It was much like a Crawfish Boil back home just without the crawfish but shrimp instead.
On Saturday the three of us, Debby, Tracy and I were headed to St. Augustine, Florida. While visiting St. Augustine, Florida for the first time we drove around first trying to find parking which wasn't an easy feat. But we finally found it and got situated in the parking garage. We wandered the streets looking for a place to eat. We had driven around quite a while and we were pretty hungry by the time we stopped.
We went into a pub called the White Lion. This was St. Patrick's Day so it was pretty busy. We ordered Margaritas and Hurricaines to drink. It took a long time to get our drinks but we sat and people watched until we received them.
Since it was St. Patrick's Day, Debby ordered the "Corned Beef & Cabbage ". Tracy and I went for the " Rueben Sandwich ".
We stopped at the chocolate shop. The sweet aroma had been filtering through the air and we finally broke down and got in line. The chocolate was out of this world.
Of course I had to stop and get the obligatory souvenir t-shirts. Some day I will start my t-shirt quilt. We will have our t-shirts from all over the place made into a quilt. I think it will look pretty cool once I get it finished. I think there is probably enough t-shirts between Jerry and I to make a couple of the quilts.
On Sunday Tracy's friend, Randy took us on his boat to Cumberland Island and then showed us around the island. He was a great tour guide. What a really cool place. It was great having someone with us who knew all about the island. The Rockefeller's still own homes on the island. There were wild horses and all kinds of other wild life there. We had a picnic on the grounds of one of the plantation homes that is being renovated. What a beautiful place. We also saw the little church where John Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bissett were married. What a quaint little church.
