Our Charleston Trip - Day One |
Jerry, Toby and I flew to Charleston, South Carolina on Sunday, July 4, 2004. We were here early for the Bereaved Parents of the USA Conference. We decided we would fly in early to see the sites since we have never been to Charleston before.
The good thing about flying into a smaller airport, we were off the plane, retrieved our luggage and had our rental car within 30 minutes of landing.
We attempted to check into the Embassy Suites but ended up with a double so we chose to leave our luggage with the concierge.
We stopped at Wendy's for a bite to eat and then found a grocery store to pick up a few things. Once we returned to get our room we unpacked and then relaxed a bit before we went down to enjoy some appetizers and drinks and then we made our way downtown.
We wandered the streets before we found us a place to eat dinner. We ate at the East Bay Crab Shack then we headed back to the top level of the parking lot overlooking the harbor.
We watched the fireworks while we sat on the trunk of our rental car at the top of a downtown parking garage. There were fireworks going off all along the harbor area. It was a sight to see. The traffic getting out of the parking garage was pretty bad. We didn't get out of there for a good 30 minutes.
