River Rafting in Costa Rica on the Reventazon River

Jerry signed us up for a river rafting experience, a first for the both of us. Jerry had made a remark one day before we left that it seemed funny we were going out of the counrty to do river rafting I thought maybe we should cancel and do that in Colorado but we went ahead with what Jerry had already scheduled.

The bus took us through the rain forest and we saw a sloth along the way. The bus driver was good about seeing things as he drove us an hour to the Rios Tropicales lodge, you can visit their website at www.riostropicales.com. Our tour guide was excellent also and had a lot of interesting stories to tell.

We changed clothes at the lodge and then boarded the bus bound for the river. We walked down to the river and got our helmets, lifevests and oars before making our way down to the water to board our raft. We were with four others who had rafted before but we all went through all the instructions before our guide set us free.

We were on the river for an hour and a half. We had a stop part way through where we were able to get out of the raft and had pictures taken and then boarded the raft once again. This time we didn't have to wear our helmets if we didn't want to because the water was much deeper. Some of the people got out here and swam a little before getting back into the rafts.

Once back at the lodge we were able to shower and dress for lunch. We had rice and beans, fried plantain, vegetables and fruit salad and relaxed a bit before it was time to board the bus for our trek back to the ship.

We had a lot of fun although there were a couple of times I wondered what the heck I was doing there but all in all it was exhilerating. Jerry thought it could have been a bit rougher but I think it was great for our first time. The river where we put in was rated II and III.
