Maui 1998 Day 3 - Hana
|
We got up and packed up the Jeep to make our way to Hana today. On our way Jerry spotted a drag strip so we stopped to look it over before hitting the road again.
The trip would be a long one and would take us through the rain forest. We decided at the end of the road where you are supposed to turn around especially in a rental vehicle and go back the way you came we were going on around the mountain which would bring us out to the winery and then we wouldn't be far from the resort. It seemed like a better idea than to go back the way we had come because it was a long, windy and slow road. There are places along the way to Hana that only one car can pass. Besides we had heard from someone else that it was an interesting road.
We experienced desert like conditions once we got around the mountain. There is hardly any rain and it reminded me of the countryside where I grew up in southern New Mexico.
We were hot and dusty driving those roads which most were dirt roads, thank goodness we had the Jeep, but we wouldn't have gone on if we had a car. We did find a little store with some snacks in it and picked up drinks and crackers.
We made our way around the mountain and came out to where we had known the winery was. We did a tour of the winery and bought some pineapple wine before heading back to the resort. It was a really long day but we had a lot of fun.
