Our Christmas 2008/Anniversary 2009 |
Jerry and I had a night out for our Christmas/Anniversary gifts to each other.
February 2008 I surprised Jerry by purchasing tickets to the Celine Dion concert at the American Airlines Center (AAC) in Dallas, January 5, 2009. I was excited and couldn't wait to tell him. We had talked about seeing her when we were in Las Vegas a few years back but didn't plan far enough in advance so we missed out.
We booked a room at the W Hotel which is right across from the AAC. All we would have to do is check into our room have dinner somewhere close and then walk right over for the concert and right back aftward. It couldn't be more perfect!
We initially booked a room online back in November not knowing for sure if Jerry would be up for the concert and a night out or not. We didn't know at the time when his surgery would be so we made sure to book a room that we could cancel if needed. Mid December I cancelled that room since we knew for sure all was well and Jerry felt up to a night out and got a better price on the room plus this one came with King Tut tickets.
We arrived at the hotel right about 3pm on Monday and got checked into our room on the 15th floor right away. We had a nice view of the city although the weather was not great but we were in our room.
See room video here.
We enjoyed a special bottle of champagne I had bought for the occassion.
There was ice on the trees and shrubs and it was drizzling all the way down there and even when we made our way to dinner at the Victory Tavern which was a block away. It was cold and dreary but we were making the most of it!
Dinner was fantastic. We sat near a couple who were there for the concert also and chatted with them while we ate and while they looked over the menu. After dinner we made our way back to the hotel after stopping by to watch the channel 8 news team while they were on camera and off. Once back in our room we had time to relax a while before it was time to go to the concert. We watched the traffic down below as people were driving and walking to the AAC. We were thrilled we missed the traffic and didn't have to park in a parking lot and walk many blocks to get there.
We made our way over to the AAC with about 15 minutes to spare before the opening act came on which he was from Vegas and would be performing at the Golden Nugget. He put on a good show doing some singer impressions.
About 9pm, Celine came on stage. She talked about meeting Emmitt Smith and his wife backstage and what a great athlete he was and made some comments about his dance moves. They happened to be sitting in our section just a few rows below us. We saw them come from backstage and were escorted to their seats.
Celine ended the concert with the theme from Titanic. She has an incredible voice! We were on our way back to our room about 10:45pm. We totaly enjoyed the evening!!
On Tuesday morning we slept in and got up about 8:30am to get ready to go to the Dallas Museum of Art to go see the King Tut exhibit. It was quite amazing. We had VIP tickets so we were on the fast track and didn't have to wait in the long lines. They walked us right past everyone standing in line. If you have the opportunity to attend the King Tut exhibit we both recommend it.
